redskins... an aberration or good in 2006

Was the 2005 record of the Redskins an aborition or will they be as good or better this year.  Of all of the playoff teams of 2005, they are the ones that have the biggest question marks.

Will Brunell be as good as the first 8 or play like the last 6 this year?

Portis started slow and came on strong, will he be better this year?

They have good coaches, but was one of the reasons that  the offence struggled late, was the fact that the other teams started to catch on to their offense?

Usually I don't correct other people's spelling errors, because lord knows I can't spell for crap, but you are not even close on this one to the point where it is unreadable.

The word you are clumsily groping for is:

ab·er·ra·tion  (b-rshn)

n. 1. A deviation from the proper or expected course. See Synonyms at deviation. 2. A departure from the normal or typical: events that were aberrations from the norm. 3. Psychology A disorder or abnormal alteration in one's mental state. 4. a. A defect of focus, such as blurring in an image. b. An imperfect image caused by a physical defect in an optical element, as in a lens. 5. The apparent displacement of the position of a celestial body in the direction of motion of an observer on Earth, caused by the motion of Earth and the finite velocity of light. 6. Genetics A deviation in the normal structure or number of chromosomes in an organism

Ninja, "naver" get too into the spelling corrections. It's "unbecoming", you holier than thou %$#%$#@.

kidding, of course. no tears, please, ninja.

I actually thought it said "redskins abortion".

Anyways...can we talk football instead? As a Birds fan, I have a vested interest in this topic, but I'll try to be objective.

I don't think their success was an aberration, nor will this year be an abortion. Their D is more than solid, and the o-line is strong. Portis is in the class of the league's RB's as long as he can stay healthy. They got better at receiver (Brandon LLoyd is actually the better acquisition than Randle El, because he can do more, physically).

Obviously, the question everyone has is Brunell. Can he do it? Redskins fans will tell you "yes", because Gibbs has had success with veteran qb's in the past. But I don't know. This is not your father's Joe Gibbs, and I was at a late season skins game and MAN Brunell's got a RAG for an arm. He also thinks he's more mobile than he is, and hurts the team when he tries to make things happen with his feet. He started strong last year, but I think age really crept up on him in the second half of the year.

AND....The NFC East is TIGHT. LITTLE margin for error there. In other words, if Portis or Brunell, or Moss, or a key defender goes down, and some of the other NFC east teams stay healthy, the 'skins could be toast. It's that way for ALL of the NFC east teams this year.

Me? I hope the Skins, 'Boys, and Gi'nts ALL lose their key players, while the Birds stay healthy.

Time to go to work...

Yeah, as I said, I would usually never, but the spelling comes to mean a totally different thing.

One means a incident out of the usual, the other suggests he would like to have them aborted.

So if it changes the meaning it is worthy of correction.

spelling aside, because I did mean aberration.  I think that Saturn11 is correct.  the only error he made was that...since i am a Cowboys fan, I hope that the rest of the divisons struggles including the Eagles.

No need to commend me for being a boy's fan, i'm already happy enough myself.

hey ninja, way to bring some football talk to the table.

maggot: 4 - 12? hmmm...pretty extreme. what's your reason it's so low? most people are picking them either to win the division or go to the playoffs.

leroy: i know bledsoe torched the birds last year, and you must be psyched to have Terrell "I LOVES me some ME" Owens in town. HOWEVER, we just signed bunkley, man. if there's any d-line that stands a chance of breaking that statue you guys call a qb, it's ours. Lookin' fwd to October 8th.

i'm GLAD the nfc east is back. our division is NOTHING but BITTER rivals with long histories of mutual hatred.

I think the Redskins are CERTAINLY better than 4-12!  In fact, I think this team is playoff-bound.

Hey Saturn11, it's nice to know that we can have a spirited discussion about two opposing teams, without the personalized name calling some posters resort to.

The NFC EAST, over the years has been the strongest and most competitive division.  I may not like the other teams, but they all have my respect, and there is nothing taken for granted when the division teams play.

the Eagles weren't as bad as last years record, because of injuries and the turmoil of TO.  So , this years games will all be competitive.  It is entirely possible that the records of each team, playing in the division will be 500.  The division winner will come from the games played out side of the division.

It's no wonder that the BEARS have such a good record.  they get to play 3 other patsys, 6 times.  Thats the reason for the early exit in the playoffs last year.

But, I think the Redskins will drop a notch this year...too many lucky wins last year.

right on, Leroy.

Yup. The Iggles were in a similar situation before the owners of the other teams got serious and hired better coaches. Now, I think you're right: it's conceivable that if none of these teams lose their core guys, they could all take one game off one another.

Birds biggest weakness, in my view is obvious: WR. But Linebacker isn't far behind. At least we have Trotter there.

Cowboys biggest weakness, in your view is.....?

Can't WAIT for the hittin' to start.

Am I missing something? This is a weak division. Sure, they're historically significant teams, but it seems as if every year folks look at the uniform, not the players.

You've got two teams with no quarterback (Skins/Giants), one with no recievers (Eagles), and one with a midseason implosion due (Cowboys). It's one and out for whoever gets to the playoffs.
