Ashley Lelie Sweepstakes

I'm taking a break, and I just tuned into the sports talk radio station in Philly to hear from one of the midday personalities that the Birds are involved in talks to get Ashley Lelie.

The deal would involve a 2d or 3rd round draft pick. But he's also saying that the deal may be "expanded" to include "a RB from Denver, possibily Tatum Bell" in exchange for first round draft pick DE Jerome MacDougal.

They're saying that if the Donkeys and the Iggs decide to pull the trigger on the deal, it won't happen until Tuesday.

What are Denver's needs? Would they REALLY part with T.Bell and Lelie for a pick and a Defensive End who's been a bust so far? It seems outlandish to me.

Maybe the "Bell" in question is Mike Bell, and Shanahan has been running him with the first team to generate hype. He's got a reputation for making good RB's...?

Of course, Chicago has also been rumoured to be involved in talks with Denver for Lelie.

What are other people hearing??? Can Bears / Broncs fans pitch in on this???

Yup.

I don't think Eagles fans in Philly realize that Lelie...

-is a turd, as you say.

-has only had 1 season of more than 50 catches (55 two years ago).

-that he's skinny and one dimensional like Todd Pinkston, who they hate

-he's basically been a disappointment in denver (again, much like Pinkston).

I had heard that the Patriots had talked to Denver as well.

I still have the heartburn to prove it.

To be honest, I don't think the Eagles need Lelie. Hank Baskett looks pretty good. Reggie Brown isn't going to be bad either. They would be foolish to give up a 2nd or 3rd for just Lelie. I don't even think McDougal for Lelie and Tatum Bell is a fair deal either. Denver's blocking sceme tends to make RBs look better than they are.

Tate is disgruntled because he backing up a rookie. Ron Dayne is apparently on the block also.

Apparently the Eagles are looking to either aquire Lee Suggs or William Green from the Browns.

Rumor has it that the Bears offered a 4th rd and Haynes...Denver declined due to the fact that there isn't much tape on Haynes, they wanted a higher draft pick and the Bears declined.....last I heard this is where it sits

Tatum Bell has never been a full time back. He only started a couple of games.  i think the preception is he is too light and wouldn't thake the pounding on a full time basis.  that Is a problem that the Eagles already have.  If you remember, one of the things that held up a new contract for Westbrook, was that many felt he couldn't take the pounding over 16+ games.  He did get hurt last year.

If Lelie couldn't handle the srtict system in Denver, he will be the same under the Eagles, who are analy strict.

But, since the Eagles really need wideouts, i would expect for them to trade for Lelie

'sup Leroy?

You seem to be suggesting that if the Birds acquired Tatum Bell they would use him as a twenty touch back. But with Westbrook on the team that's highly unlikely.

Don't you think acquiring Bell would add depth, a better running back to the mix, and take some of the wear and tear off Westbrook?

I suspect that the possibilities here are scaring the crap out of you (you're Cowboys fan, right?).

Warn your boy Bledsoe that Kearse, Bunkley, Howard, and Patterson, are comin after him...

I just think that westbrook is fragile becasue of his size.  He may well make it through the entire season, as he is a gamer...but if Westbrook were to go down for an extended time, I don't think that Tatum bell has proven to be a 25 carry long term replacement.

I've been watching the Cowboys and the Eagles play since the early 60's.  I'm a cowboy supporter, but i think i look at most players objectively, especially because of fantasy football.  Last year I picked up westbrook with an early pick, and that proved to be a bad pick.

I also don't make statements that i might have to live down.  The Cowboys could just as well win both games agains the Eagles as they could loose both games.

But i like the boy's chances.   they are young on defense, and they have lots of offensive weapons.  TWO good tight ends, Terry Glenn and TO will make it impossible to double everyone.  If J Jones is healthy this year, I wouldn't want to be the Eagles and have to defend all of that talent.

Let the games begin, bragin rights begins after the first games we play

No doubt, Westbrook's fragile. No doubt, too, that Bell hasn't ever been a 20 touch back. I could be wrong about this, but you seem to be suggesting that this means the Birds shouldn't go after Bell.

I think the opposite: Bell fits right in because he's used to playing in a support role, and mixing him in would give Westbrook a longer shelf life. Doesn't this make sense?

This all may be moot, however. The deal seems unlikely...

Ouch. Someone in our league picked him in the first round. He wound up in our league's "Toilet Bowl".

We're like minded this way. It's hard to read this year. Just like you like the 'boys chances, I like the birds chances. And we're both justified in those stances. Witten was on the board when the birds chose L.J. Smith, who has a habit of coming up with little injuries that keep him on the bench in the 4th quarter. I wish we had picked Witten.

You're right about your talent at the skill positions, but I'm tellin' ya Leroy, our D is gonna be HOT this year. Bledsoe's not going to have alot of time...

I have NEvER held it against them, eveyone can make a mistake now and then.  All moms want their babies to grow up to be Cowboys.  Ah, October 8th..what a great day for football
