I got my fantasy draft this Saturday. Yea....I know its early..but it is..what it is.
12 team league...no keepers. We pick cards for draft order and snake back and forth.
We always have some guy who takes Peyton Manning in the top 10. I drafted at pick 12 the past two years.
Looking for some help here people. Most of us in here are regulars...and have different favorite teams and or players. I want to make this years team a group of players picked by the PFT msg board guys...WTF...try something different.
The pot is $1200. $800 for 1st and $300 for 2nd and $100 for 3rd.
If you are interested let me know...if we win something....we'll figure out a way to split the pot.
Cheat sheets, sleeper picks, ect..ect.. are all appreciated
It looked like Corey Dillon already took a bump in the first pre-season game and Maroney was a FREAK. Might be able to pick him up late and if Dillon is out by game 4.......
PFT just carried a story that Bledsoe might get bumped for Tony Romo so there is another good sleeper pick.
Rumor has it that Deion Branch might really hold out the season that would men Chad Jackson has to catch 75 balls.
I find that the guys that do best, stockpile the running backs. There are always sleepers in the quarterbacks, but unless it is a wideout that is a can't miss guy, I would lean to the running backs in the early rounds.
there are only about 12 backs that aren't in a time-share situation.....get one of them immediately....my suggestion would be draft one of the following backs in the first.....Portis...L.Johnson....R.Brown (Mia)....S Alexander.....Tomlinson....or S Jackson form St. Louis....if it was a keeper league I would stress this guy and L. Johnson even more.
Does your league allow the run and shoot (1 RB/3 WRs) if so draft one of the above backs....then fill up on WRs for the next 2 picks, back to the RB for a solid guy, then 2 WRs...grab a QB in RD 6....
they have and it will tell some....but he is the sole starter....not splitting time or being pushed by anyone, and will be the focal point of the attack.....will he be over the top, not without line help, but he will have good steady production

that's generally true, but not as true as it used to be. the RBBC situation, guys specializing in 3rd down, passing situations, and goal line plays, and rampant injuries are wreaking havoc with that.
but these days, if you follow the running back stockpile logic (aka the Faulk method), you're likely to leave someone really valuable at another position on the board. I'm not saying that RB's aren't important, I'm just suggesting that before you AUTOMATICALLY pick a RB in round 3, you should take a look at who's available at other positions.
the last three years in my league, you would LAUGH at the rb's our champ had. this is a guy who has had ahman green, deuce mccallister, kevin jones...kevan barlow...you name it. HOWEVER, he was VERY smart with his QB and WR situations all year. He got Carson Palmer in the 10th round. on the last week of the season, 2 yrs ago, he picked up then unknown Lee Evans off waivers, and the guy scored three td's that week.
good luck.
taco, if you want my cheats, contact me off list. nobody's got a crystal ball, but i'm usually in the playoffs...

Yea no doubt LJ is going to his stats. But I kinda laugh at people who think he's the clear cut #1 pick. 2 years ago the Chiefs had one of the best OT duos in NFL history. Now in 2006 they might have the worst OT's in the entire NFL.
I think LJ has late 1st/early 2nd round value this season.
I wouldn't pass on the obvious wide outs that are point getters, but in the first 3 or 4 rounds, I would just lean towards the running backs. In all of the leagues I was in last year, the guys with the ladanian tomlinsons and Alexanders, were all in the playoffs.
that being said, leagues are won and lost on the waiver wire. The first weeks of the league, don't be afraid to dump someone if a hot shot shows up. Monitor the waiver wire daily
i write: show me the money!! kidding. should be in your aol account, dude. don't laugh at them. i know i say this every year, but it wasn't as easy to rank them this year...
i forgot to note in my email: my league doesn't require tight ends so i don't have them ranked beyond the obvious guys. they fill wr slots if you want them to. so the only guys who ever get drafted are gonzo, gates, heap, crumpler, and sometimes shockey. for a new york minute, somebody in our league had LJ smith last year (after that raiders game). that didn't work out too good for him. two years ago, someone drafted winslow, heh heh.
I was in a league last year, that had TE's. I made the mistake of drafting a tight end too high.. But since you basically need 2 TE's becasue of the off weeks, I picked up a better one on the waiver wire.
Like I said, the key to success is the waiver wire, watch it DAILY
The waiver wire is usually my strong spot. Couple years ago I picked up both Droughns and lee evans....before.....they started. Last year I drafted Willie Parked in the second week of August.
Its the RB's and WR's on draft day...where I usually fuk up. We draft 4 of each.
Need to find the guy....who will end up being "the guy"....aka larry johnson and priest holmes.
never wrong to use an early pick a TE in a league requiring one....you just picked the wrong one, if you aren't getting a Gates or young Tony G, then don't use an early pick, but either one of those guys give you an edge over everyone in the league....you will win the TE match-up every time.
My suggestion is get Heap in the middle (5-7) rounds....he will be a stud this year, McNair always throws to his TEs...Tony G #s will fall off this year due to the lack of the starting tackles....Winslow might be a nice pick-up later, the Browns will be behind all year and need to throw it.....Ben Watson would be a nice late round steal
My suggestion is (depending on where you draft) grab a stud RB 1st Rd, a stud WR in the second, solid RB in the third, WR for the 4th, 5th round get either a top TE or a good QB.....use a hand-cuff for your top RB stud in the later rounds, and pick up a guy in the RB by committee situation , but one that may come out as the top RB
As I read what everyone says, it all makes sense. I guess the key is knowing the players and the game.(DUH) Every draft is different and watching for players that will perform in the offense they are in is ultimate.
Pittsburgh...runs the ball Baltimore will pass to the TE's Dallas will have a balanced attack Phili will use westbrook alot Sandiego, Seatlle and Denver run the ball Arizona will use the wide outs alot
We just need to analize each team, and pick what they will do best
exactly....a guy may not be the best RB or WR...but if his team is going to feed him the ball and his situation calls for him to handle the ball alot....draft him. I draft much the same as the Bears do.....they won't reach for a need, when they can get a solid contributor in another area...either will I. I'd rather draft a top TE or a top D instead of reaching on my fourth RB or WR
Kickers early and often... Just Kidding.. That ESPN commercial is great!
My sleeper this season is with out a doubt Philip Rivers.. I am a back to back winner of a very competitive league... I rolled the dice on Carson Palmer last year in the 5th and look to do the same thing this year with Rivers... He should have a very productive year...
got it..thanks. Going to be working late tonight. Stay at the office till 11pm (till the wife and kids are asleep) then hit the home office. got to get the draft in order....and I new pic for PFT. Time to hit the liquor store......
Stephen Jackson at number 8!!! NICE!!! Guys in your league are following cheat sheets written in June, huh? He'll be a solid number one.
I imagine you were comfortable w/ Jamal Lewis after seeing the Birds / Ravens game? He looked strong, and the McNair / Mason combo will make it harder to key on him. He could have a breakout year.
And Domanick Davis is apparently being allowed to sit until his injury absolutely heals. He could wind up really helping you out.
WRs look good, too.
The only questionable spot is Billy Volek. You'll have to use him in wk. 9, right? Tenesee plays Jacksonville. A tough matchup. And Volek might not be their starter by then. Keep your eyes out for someone else with a more favorable matchup...Tampa Bay plays New Orleans...is Simms available?
