Most Overrated

There's a nice "underrated" thread going, so why not start an "overrated" one, right?

I've said it on this here message board already, so rather than reinvent the wheel, here's the text I posted over the summer, in response to Ninja's suggestion that the 'phins are the most overrated team. Basically, I agreed:

"Yeah, for those of you who are ready to get on your knees and suck on the dolphin shlong because of their strong finish last year...

After losing to the lowly Brownies by a score of 22 - 0, the 'phins beat:

Raiders 33-21
Bills 24-23
Chargers 23-21
Jets 24-20
Titans 24-10
Patriots 28-26

not exactly the class of the league. even the Chargers missed the playoffs.

The patriots couldn't change their playoff status in week 17, and benched their starters.

so this year's trendy pick to win the AFC East (also picked by some to be the AFC representative to the Super Bowl) basically went 3 - 7, and then their mighty defense let the Raiders score three touchdowns, barely beat the Bills, Jets, and the Patriots scrubs.

they may not be as good as the experts are saying."

Are there other teams that come close to being as overrated as this?

The Cowboys also strike me as a team that shouldn't be picked to win the Super Bowl....

Dolphins. Crappy QB and even crappier O-line. This year's version of the 2005 Bills, all hype.

Eagles. They made their living off beating the pathetic NFC East and then would get bounced in the playoffs. Now the rest of the NFC East got their stuff together and Eagles went 0-6 vs them.

Cowboys. I look at the Cowboys roster and the Browns roster and don't see much difference. BSPN is obsessed with Dallas and hypes them up.

Worse yet the Patriots pulled their starters  because losing gave them a cupcake game to start the playoffs. This is the game where Doug Flutie got to do the drop-kick, and Matt Cassel who haden't started a game in 4 years threw 2 TD's before Belichick called him over to the sideline and told him to cut the sh1t.

Dolphins are a joke, and I am so glad I don't have to hear about their "6 wins" anymore.

i gotta go with the Dolphins, Jags and Dallas. Dolphins pass D looked real suspect. Can the Jags really run the ball? Dallas has a way after his prime Drew Bledsoe...Terry Glenn (not TO) will be the big weapon on that team but with Drew there...

I'd even go as far to say that my Patriots are held higher than they should be. Both Maroney and Jackson are hurt, Linebacking core is tissue thin (and not getting younger) and none of our wideouts will get any double coverage. Plus the whole Branch debacle

i don't see how a team that nobody's picking to do anything this year can be overrated. but you're right, in year's past, the nfc east wasn't so good, and the birds weren't as good as people thought they were. HOWEVER, the fact the rest of the nfc east has caught up to them is not the ONLY reason they went 0 - 6 vs. their division rivals last year. they had a ton of injuries.

how about the redskins? they just might be the Overrated Team of All Time: every year they make high profile offseason moves that fool a large percentage of fans and press into thinking that "this might be the year".

and with the exception of last year, they've fallen flat on their faces every time. are they up to the hype this year? some are already jumping off the bandwagon after their offense did next to nothing in the preseason....

i'm not sure any hardcore football fan considers the Redskins doing anything. I don't mind dan snyder as an owner as much as having Mark Bruenell at QB; that whole ship is gonna sink. (the santana moss trade was pretty badass though)

As a Pats fan I would hope that you know that Jackson and Maroney both have "Belichick Injuries" which is defined as: "an injury of dubious origin that may or may not actually exist".

Hell, he usually puts 1 perfectly healthy player on IR just to hide them for the roster for a season. They used to do it more often, but stupid a$$ Kilf Kingsbury had to go blab it.

Anyways I wouldn't worry about Maroney at all, and Jackson only a little bit.

maroney's got a knee brace on, that can't be good and jackson's hamstring was definitely hurt...Gabriel's on the list for a hammy too which might be this week's Belicheck injury report. I remember last year every week Brady was on the list

Dolphins: Definitely overated, SI writers are beyond retarded, Patsies will win that division and the Phins will go 8-8 if they are lucky

Cowgirls: Trendy bullsh#t, the Tuna is fat and he wears softball shorts, Giants will win that division and the Eagles will get a wildcard

Bengals: Carson better beat Mannings TD record if they want to have any chance of making the playoffs this year, they remind me of the Colts before they got a defense

Sh#tbirds: in the immortal words of Bluto "McNair, DEAD, Jamal Lewis, DEAD, Ray Lewis, DEAD"
