"(The only bust in this regard (albeit a big one) was Tony Mandarich, the second overall selection in 1989.)"
Obviously Florio hasn't been following drafts in the '90s. Kenyatta Walker, Mike Williams, Bernard Williams, Ray Roberts, and more. Looking at recent drafts, Robert Gallery looks like a bust.
Listen jackass, everyone knows the cliche about highly-drafted tackles. But it isn't always accurate.
There's a difference between busts and disappointments. A bust is someone who's a backup or out of the league completely. Walker is a disappointment, but this is his 6th year as a starter, that's not a bust. Gallery is also a disappointment, but atleast he's still a starter.
I would say Marc Columbo is a bust but I think he's starting for Dallas. That's more about Dallas being an over-rated cluster-F than about Columbo being good.
Columbo wasn't really a bust.....he looked good the first year then had a major injury....injured players aren't a bust....just injured. Cade McNown was a bust....david Terrel was a bust...Enis...Salaam.....Rick Meier (the second time)....or as we call it in Chicago....the Jauron Years....good luck Buffalo....you'll need it

The Pats basically spotted the Bills a 14 point lead yesterday and still beat them.
Mandarich was the epitomy of bust...probably the biggest in modern football. I still can't get over that guy. What makes me even more mad was the guys drafted after him that were stars. The guy looked like a freakin animal in college and looked like the would be the cornerstone of the Packers offense for 10+ years. Instead, as soon as he realizes he can't juice up on steroids in the pros...oops...can't do it anymore.

But my point here holds. Florio conveniently ignored all the busts and focused on those who did well. Peddler of falsehoods.

it's all about the "trash talk" journalism and snarky comments. it's the new "cool" cause everyone is doing it.
