Cop never showed Foley his badge???!!

http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2006/10/19/sports/professional/chargers/0_13_2010_19_06.txt

"Wouldn't it have been better to show (Foley) your badge?" Vecchio asked the officer during cross-examination.

"It would have been, yes," Mansker replied.

And my award for dumbA$$ defense of the day is:

"Maguire also took notice of Mansker's courtroom demonstration of the volume and tone of voice the officer used when shouting the commands he said he gave to Foley and Gaut.

"He's got a booming voice," Maguire said of Mansker, "and frankly, if anybody looks like a cop, it's Mansker.""

Pardon my ire but are you F***ing kidding me???!!!! he LOOKS like a cop????!!! I am gonna puke.  I am sure there is more to come and of course more to the story but thats my knee jerk reaction for the moment

This is absolutely outrageous.  The charges against Foley for assault on a police officer should be downgraded to disorderly conduct and DWI.  Someone points a gun at me without showing me a badge, I will be sure to run their a$$ over.  That rookie cop F'ed up big time and I don't know how they do things in Cali, but here in KCMO a cop has to clearly identify him/herself.

Yeah that's pretty dumb. He looks like a cop? I want to know what the stereotypical cop looks like? I've seen cops of all shapes, sizes, races, etc. Fat cops, skinny cops, black cops, white cops, etc.

The only way I MIGHT guess he was a cop was the haircut. I usually see the haircut and guess he's maybe ex/currently military or a cop or something like that. I never assume someone's a cop. He11, could just be a wannabe cop who pumps himself up and gets the haitcut.

The guy pulls a gun on Foley, so Foley charges him. No one was right in the whole situation. Foley was wrong because he was intoxicated and the cop was wrong for pretty much everything he did (except maybe pull him over, but after that...)

Angry? yes. Surprised? no. I don't want to go there with the rest of what i'm thinking, but as a black man, this does not surprise me one bit. Add into it that this was a rookie cop who made several colossal rookie mistakes!...seen it before, will see it again.

Rookie cop or seasoned cop, this cop went way over the line.  I trained as a wanna be cop, but realized I wasn't a big enough a-hole to do the job.  That officer should had backed off completely, called for a marked on-duty unit and allowed a police car with uniformed officers in it to do the job.  Doing what he did endangered himself and others at a higher rate than if he woulda just let on duty cops do the job. I hope that guy gets fired and prosecuted for his actions.  Even though he won't, I hope a lot of dog sh*t gets lit on his door step.  I am a white boy and to this day still do not understand why a lot of cops are racist.  They should hate every scum bag and violate everone's rights equally.

By the way....I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist or anything.

But what cop in his right mind would sit up on the stand and say that he didn't show the drunk driver his badge before popping a cap in his ass...

Let me tell you....one that has been cooerced by the defendant (or the defendants law team into doing so). If that was the case (fiction or otherwise) then Steve Foley, and his lawyers stand to make much more than his NFL career would have paid. Especially in California where respected cops...republicans, and upstanding citizens are the minority.

You can bet your ass that this cop is getting paid off. Why on earth...with really noone to dispute otherwise would this cop tell anyone that? The guy would for sure lose his job and the whole fukn state is going to be sued. It just doesn't make any sense.

I'm calling bullsh1t on this one.

Honestly....who really gives a shiit. Foley was something like 3 times over the legal limit on booze....and didnt believe the "piece" that popped the cap in his ass was real. Do you honestly  think he would have believed the badge was real ?

Did he (Foley) ask to see the badge? "If you really are a cop...show me your badge".....No he didnt cause he was fukn wasted.

Cop : "Sir I am a police officer...here is my badge"

Foley : "Then why do you have that fake gun"

My point....you cant argue or debate with a fukn drunk...we have all been there and know its true

I agree with you. But a jury made up by your average antidisestablishment liberal Californian who thinks the world should do away with guns and want policement to carry whiffle ball bats for protection will always side with the famous person.

I'm a liberal and I side with the cop...a MFKR that big and buzzed, I'm pumping a couple in him also. Maybe the cop said what he said because it is the truth... and is that not what they are supposed to do?

Now Gobears me and you don't agree politically...never have but you crossed the line on this one....respected cops....republicans...and upstanding citizens?...what is this one of those pick out the one that don't belong test or what?.....they have Republicans in California...I know because I see them indicted all the time! Duke Cunningham was one of those California Republicans...bigtime on the take, maybe thats why there are fewer of them (see George Ryan Ill.) hey the Governator is another one...LOL

You use Liberal like it is a dirty word....this country was founded by liberals, the Constitution was wrote by liberals, Jesus was a liberal.....name one great thing that Conservatives have EVER done?

now..... I've had more than my fair share of trouble with the men who carry a badge, and there may be some bad cops out there. But that is a damn tough job to do for very little pay and a large percentage of cops are pretty decent guys.  There is nothing like a cop when you really need one, sucks when they show up and you don't need them. For every bad cop you hear about there a many good ones you don't. Overall they do a good job in many adverse situations.

Iowa well done ...you stated  "I'm a liberal and I side with the cop...a MFKR that big and buzzed, I'm pumping a couple in him also. Maybe the cop said what he said because it is the truth... and is that not what they are supposed to do?"

Honestly..the way I see..no joking aside. We have a new cop. Who was trying to do the "right thing"....off duty...on duty..it doesnt matter. And on a side note....Once he called it in...which we all know  he did  now....if he didnt act....he could have been charged internally by the police. A more seasoned cop probably would have looked the other way...WTF he's off duty and going home

But the sketchy details coming out seem to suggest Foley stopped his car at least a couple of times during the ordeal. He came to a complete stop in his own neighborhood...but the cop doesnt know this at this point.

Now....a warning shot was possibly fired when Foley exits the car...I say possibly because #1 I dont know it as fact...and #2 most states dont allow it.

Now we know the cop at least stated he was a cop.....why???  because it wasnt asked by Foleys attorneys. Foley then proceeds towards the cop and catches some lead in the ass.

Why did the cop fire? Fear. There are two types of fear. Objective and Subjective. And this arguement comes into discussion regularly...especially with domestic disputes where there is no direct evidence of abuse...but rather fear of abuse.

Bottom line....if there was the "fear factor" and no means reasonably to break it off...it was al justified. Reports indicate the cop stated he felt trapped. And given his response to the "did you show him your badge question" ......the cop appears honest as well

I hear that Foley is only getting charged with a DUI on this?  Is the correct?  If so, I think that is good and bad.  Good because that uncover cop should have never done what he did.  Bad because it should be a felony DUI because I don't think this is his first offense (an I don't know the laws in Cali on these sorts of things).  I wonder what the lawyer of this website would say?  So what would you say Taco Bill?

I still say fuk Steve Foley. Err on the side of the cop, not the drunk semi rampaging large football player with a felon girlfriend.

Given how little I know about what went down...From what I do know, Foley is lucky to be alive. I would have been aiming a bit higher. Nothing stops a man (or animal) like a lung full of blood...on adrenaline, pcp, herione, or alcohol.

How many fukn times do famous or wealthy people have to watch a famous person go through this before they realize that they are not above the law in any way shape or form?

I have a new campaign....."Fuk Foley"

What i wonder, is badge or no badge, why the **** would you charge in on someone with a fukn gun?  What if he isnt a cop, hes a dealer or something, and here you are all 250 pounds of muscle, trying to beat him up.  Stupid.  The fact that we was a cop, and some big fukn animal of a man is charging in on him like hes gonna rip his arms off and beat him to death with them, not to mention a crazy girlfriend trying to run you over, kind of gives the cop, and anyone really, the right to self defense.  Taco's post is pretty straight on there. And Galason's right, it doesnt matter how big you are, a lung full of blood usually stops you.
