If I had to pick today, it would be between these guys:
L. Tomlinson (SD), Marques Colston (NO), Reggie Wayne (IND), Drew Brees (NO), Peyton Manning (IND), or Julius Peppers (CAR)
That would be insane if a 7th round pick rookie recieved MVP. Hes got my vote! But i feel Drew Brees should be the leading canidate to this point, Marc Bulger should recieve some votes.
Reggie Wayne has no place on the list for MVP, i feel Donald Driver, Tory Holt and Andre Johnson have all been "more valuable" to this point than Wayne as a reciever.
My vote goes to Brees. He has proved everyone wrong who said he wouldn't be the same because of a bum shoulder. Not only is he proving everyone wrong, he's freakin tearing up the league doing it. Between his numbers and his turning around that offense, he definantly deserves MVP honors.
All those other guys you named, their teams could still function if they were not in. If guys like Brees or Peyton Manning weren't in, their teams would suck.
Brees my ass. Try Ladanlian Tomlinson. The guy is the best back of our day. I try not to miss many of his games. We are watching the 2000's Barry Sanders..absolutely fukn brilliant.

yea, LT is incredible, probably will go down in the top 5 backs of all time barring injury or some crazy shat. But compare him to Barry Sanders? I DID watch all of Barry Sanders games (well a large majority) and LT is no Barry, never will be. Barry played behind one of the worst O-lines ever for one of the worst franchises ever. LT got a little luckier, but he still doesnt have near the YPC Barry ever did. And anyone who watched Barry will tell you this, he did stuff no one has ever done, no back ever, Payton, Brown, Smith, Martin, Campbell, OJ, Dickerson, Faulk - NO ONE - ever did or could do. The guy had magic feet, defenders always said "you'd think you had him wrapped up in your arms, then you fell on your face, look back and hes in the end zone" and its true, he could juke a freight train, LT doesnt have his god given ability and thats why he never will be the GOAT, like Barry. But yea hes the best back of our day, just dont compare him to barry
And to answer your question, i think Brees is clearly the MVP, I really think the Colts would be better without Manning than the Saints would be without Brees. I think that since Brees is going to take a team that is coming off a tragic 3-13 season to win their division, a division that had two playoffs teams and a team that played in the NFC championship last year. With no real additions other than him and Colston, yea i know what your thinking "what about reggie bush" to be perfectly honest, the run game would be much more healthy without his 2.7 YPC, duece is a better back (atleast at this point). So i dont really count him yet.
Aside from the offensive line argument, how can you not compare the two? LT and Barry have similar ankle breaking running styles. LT is right on pace in most statistical categories with Sanders.
JHuber...I agree with much of what you have said about Barry, a great back and fun to watch. I also watched many of Sanders games, but I had seen his style before. Sanders boyhood hero had the same moves and vision, the Kansas comet Gale Sayers. I also watched most of HIS games and the styles were the same. But to tell you the truth neither one of them were elusive as Willie "the Wisp" Gallimore.... if you get the chance watch some tape on that kid, unblieveable talent. Barry was the most elusive of contemporary backs, that I will agree to, but as far as doing stuff no-one has ever done ...don't delude yourself.
In fact, at LT's current pace, he will far surpass Sanders in almost every statistical category at similar points in their respective careers..
Has anyone noticed the following about LT
Noone hits him hard...Ever. I watch entire games where he is barely tackled every time. On the other hand. Watch Tiki Barber. See the type of punishment he takes.
Such an amazing difference. Its no wonder that Tiki is choosing to retire. Dude got hit so hard this weekend that his fukn teeth are bruised.

In fact, he got hit so hard last week that I had to drink a couple extra beers to ease the pain. You know us Irishmen, always finding a reason for a drink!
barry sanders finished a 2000 yard season with a 6.1 YPC, Tomlinson will never be able to do that. I think LT will break all his career totals, but he isnt near as elusive as barry, and i think if they both played the same amount of years, sanders would be the better back.
huber I didn't say that LT would break EVERY record. But he will get most.
And as LT is only 6 years into his career, and yes he is on pace to beat most of Barrys records. You cannot be so "matter of fact" about the Barry to LT comparisons, you just can't.
And as there is no real way to prove elusiveness, aside from the amount of times the back has escaped from a sea of defenders. I don't think that there are any stats kept on that type of scenario...But I will give you that one. Barry was untouchable in traffic. LT rarely gets caught in it. Don't know what to make of it really.
I don't agree with Chris often, but I do agree with him on this. Sure Barry's numbers look good when they're added up, but he would go most of the game with 2 or 3 yard runs then he would rip off a big one which would fluff his numbers. Very inconsitant.
On the other hand, LT actually gets the 4 or 5 yards per carry consistantly.

I agree with you on that Grave Digger. How can you ever be consistent going +3, -2, +57 on a series of runs?

I don't know if that is sarcasm, but you are actually right. Barry would do things like have a run of -1, -2, 37 on one series. Or he would go -2, -3, -1 for one series, then he would go for 60 on the next series. Most of the time, from what I observed, he didn't do his team many favors. Half the time, it seemed he would go backwards, which would set his defense up in bad position.
I liked Barry, I liked watching him. He was fun and electric, but if we had an "all time draft", and Barry (in his prime) and LT fell to me, I would definantly go LT. Just my opinion though.
It's Tomlinson hands down. The man is simply amazing. He's consistent and overwhelmingly effective in known running situations. He reminds me of Payton in a lot of ways.
1. Class act. Never any drama, only hard work and no nonsense.
2. He's a top notch blocker. He can pick up blitzes, etc extremely well.
3. He's a great receiving threat out of the backfield.
4. He can actually throw the ball effectively.
5. When teams know the run is coming, they still can't stop him. Kudos to the O line too, but there's a lot that's just Tomlinson.
I won't admit it often, but if he continues for many years as such, he could be the best of all time. I find it hard not to root for someone like him. That is unless he's playing the Bears!
