This "Dolphins" bullshot

I am tired of hearing about the Maimi Dolphins. All I ever hear is "they finished so strong"?

THEY WHAT??!!?!?!

At the end of the season last year they had to face the Patriots. Let us quote some of the official game recap of this match-up for prospective:

Doug Flutie converted the NFL's first successful drop kick for an extra point in 64 years. Rookie quarterback Matt Cassel, who threw 33 passes in four years as a backup at USC, threw two touchdown passes. And rookie wide receiver Bam Childress, who made his first pro catch after being activated before the game, gave up a touchdown catch while playing cornerback

So our practice squad receiver played his first snaps in the NFL at both receiver and corner. A backup QB that had not really played in 5 years threw 2 TD passes, and we let a "hometown hero" throw away points as a farewell present. Not to mention that Belichick literally had to reign Cassell in or he was going to beat them! (we were trying to lose so we could get the cupcake Jags in the playoffs)

They finished by getting their a$$eS whipped by the Pats practice squad. No that "strong" if you ask me.

That was a VERY IMPRESSIVE win by those Miami Dolphins!!!!!

RE: This "Dolphins" bullshot

I'm sick of it too. but ninja, forget about the win they eek'd out over your beloved Patsie's practice squad. the rest of the teams they beat (w/ the exception of the chargers) are filled with players who couldn't even make the Patsies practice squad.

this is the mythical "strong finish" by last year's 'phins. somehow during the spring and summer, this has been transmuted into Sooper Bull hype:

Oakland 33-21
BUFFALO 24-23
San Diego 23-21
N.Y. JETS 24-20
TENNESSEE 24-10
New England 28-26

Nick Saban looks like he could be a really good coach. And the 'phins ARE better than they were when Wannstadt left them. But this hype is too much.

It kind of reminds me of last year's preseason hype of Detroit. Remember that? "Detroit", they'd say, solemnly, respectfully. "All those receivers", they'd say, with wide eyes. "This will be Harrington's year", they said. Look at 'em now.

I don't think the Dolphins will explode, but they aint goin' to no super bowl.

Gimme a break.

They are certainly better off with Saban than they have been in the better part of the past decade, but the Culpepper thing smacks of desperation.

That said, the Dolphins beat some no-name teams and the Pats practice squad and I constantly have to hear about how they could win the AFC East.

Yeah, if Brady breaks a hand or something..... otherwise they can hope for a weak AFC this year and a wild-card berth, but I doubt it. I assume the wild-cards will be either the:

1. Broncos or Chiefs

and either the

2. Bengals or Steelers

In each of those pairing I expect 1 to win the division and the other to be the AFC wild-card.

In the other 2 divisions the Patriots and Colts are all but locked in.

I think the Colts and Broncos are a lock to win their divisions this year, and I'm pretty confident that the Steelers will win theirs as well.  However, I do NOT believe the AFC East will be a lock for the Patriots this year by ANY means!  They could very well win it, but remember, this team is NOT invincible anymore.

I'm not saying the Dolphins WILL win the AFC East but I do believe they can. It all really depends on which Culpepper they get, the one from 2004, or the one from 2005. As long as the Pats have Brady, they always have a shot, much like the Packers with Favre before he turned "death + 10" years old.

Every year at least one team that is a lock to win the division fails. Injuries or tough schedules can do it.  just look at Phili last year.  So,maybe the dolphin's won't win the division, but the Pat's have been relatively injury free at key positons for the past few years.  It could happen!!

If the dolphin's play great, they could do it.  I don't think the Steeler's are a lock to win the division either.  They've lost a couple of key players.

Our secondary has completely gone out 2 years running including Ty Law when he broke his foot. Our star LB (Teddy) had a friggin STROKE. Future Hall of Famer Rodney Harrison blew out a leg.

Exactly how "injury free at key positions" have we been again?

AFC East sucks the high, hard one.  New England wins it EASY.

If we have any trouble with the Dolphins we can put in the backup QB that didn't play in college, and has never started an NFL game. He was TEARING the Dolphins apart in that last game.

I'm not a dolphin's fan, just looking at it objectively.  I Know the patroits fans want them to win it all...and they may well be there in the end.  BUT, they have won the division for a while,  so they could have injuries or just loose the close ones this year.

Like I said...every year someone that is picked to win the division has a down year.  If it isn't the pat's then just who is primed to have a down year

If there is a God it will be the Colts. Nobody really knows how important James was to that offense, but we are about to find out. Plus they replaced him with Joesph Addai, and I am sure they would rather have gotten Maroney.

Please, please, please let it be the Colts.

I've been saying for a month or two how overrated the Dolphins are. Maybe the most overhyped team this century. I live in south Florida so I always have to hear about them and read the Shill Sentinel blowing Nick Saban up like he is God himself. Didn't the Buffalo Bills finish very strong in 04? They blew hard in 05 and I predict that the Dolphins will blow hard in 06.

Yeah Buffalo finished strong in '04 and were the AFC media darlings before the '05 season. Their defense underachieved, they lost Spikes early on, and their young QB struggled. Can the same happen to the Dolphins? Sure, but Culpepper is not Losman. He may have a lower floor, but we've also seen how high his ceiling can go. It's all a matter of which is the true 'Pepper.

I never said Pittsburgh was a lock to win their division!  I said I felt pretty confident about their chances of doing so!  And YES, I do believe that New England WILL have a tougher time winning the AFC East this year than in past years (i.e. if they win it).  Last time I checked, the Pats have LOST more than they have gained during this off-season.  Despite this, I still believe this is a solid football team, but, like I said before, they are certainly NOT invincible!
