The Steve Foley saga , , , where does one start? A couple of sign posts (no pun intended) are clearly marked: Don't drink and drive, Don't weave in an out of traffic at 90 mph, and for christ-sakes, don't ever do either at 3:00am! Nothing good ever happens behind the wheel at 3:00am.
Yes, I know all of the conspiracy theorists (pro football talk rumor mill included) are gonna get behind this one, but how in the hell do you get past the three aforementioned rules? That Foley had beef with the San Diego PD, or they with him, is really not the angle here. If in fact he was driving in an impaired state, and a dangerous fashion is where the story should have ended. Foley chose to ramp up this fiasco. C'mon, even if he had suspicions this wasn't really a cop, do you really want to reach for something when someone (cop or no) has already drawn a heater??
Another point, next time you want a designated driver/co-pilot, better tell them not to make a bad situation worse by popping off to the cop, and revving the engine.
i work late night shifts, so am i a criminal if i drive home late at night, or if i decide to go get a bedtime snack across town at the waffle house?
i really hate people's "grandiose judgemental" attitudes, thinking they should know what other people "should be doing"
get real.
Yeah right....they shot him for no apparent reason and it's all those rotten cops harrassing people for no reason that's to blame here.
Yeah OK......and O.J. is innocent too.
your dismissal of anything "possible" proves that you too, have a grandiose attitude. it's no different to take the side of the cop than it is of Foley, but to dismiss ANY possible scenario and base a definitive judgement on the fact that "yea, cops don't lie" etc... makes you part of the problem!
here's a newsflash for ya: cops DO stereotype, cops DO HARRASS INNOCENT PEOPLE, cops DO trump up charges even when they know they screwed up. i know this, because i too have had PERSONAL experience dealing with the "bad boys" in blue. i mean, WHO HASN'T! must be those people who probably live the life of a sheep and bow down in the face of authority, rather than uphold the truth no matter what authority says. they just bend over and take it because they feel subconscious guilt or something, well i for one don't.
long winded thoughts aside, you shouldn't be so quick to "yeah right" everything. it really does make you look like an idiot. get "real" dude.
Police officer named in shooting of Chargers linebacker By BERNIE WILSON, AP Sports Writer September 5, 2006
SAN DIEGO (AP) -- An off-duty Coronado police officer who shot Chargers linebacker Steve Foley was identified Tuesday as Aaron Mansker, who has been with the force since August 2005.
yeah, i'm sure he was just doing what experience told him to right?
The only part of this story that is odd....was that the cop didnt call for backup(maybe he did but its not been reported)... from what I have read...
The shoot itself was good. Identified himself....pulled his gun...even read one report of a warning shot fired. If Foley is such a dumb ass he approached a guy with a gun..who said he was a cop....Oh fukn well. Bad call on Foleys part for thinking it was fake and the cop wasnt a cop.
This wasnt some 18yr old blonde getting pulled over in the middle of now where. It was a grown big man who has had dealing with police in the past. He knows the drill. At least 3 arrests in his past.
Cops arrest you. Say nothing...call your lawyer and post bond.
Think about it. You pull over some alleged drunk. Foley gets out of the car....the chick then starts driving the car towards you......with big ass foley walking along side. WTF
Whats the saying.....I would rather be judged by 11 than carried by 6
Didn't think I would need to clarify the point of folks who are working alternative schedules, but I guess I do. My point was essentially that illegal activity, i.e. drinking and driving, and weaving at high speeds, in the wee hours is a recipe for disaster, even more than during daylight hours. No I haven't done a statistical analysis, but I think this is a pretty safe assumption.
As for grandiose judgemental attitude , , , based upon the information (I won't call them facts, because I wasn't there) I'm not seeing it.
Finally, if you want to seek the truth at 3:00am looking down the barrel of a gun, you go right ahead. I'll hang back with the sheep, and live to question that authority (if so warranted) in a more proper forum.
Now the Chargers arent going to pay him either. Now thats interesting. Publicly the team claims he was a great guy , a leader ect.... So while the great guy leader is laid up in recovery....in his time of need....you wont give him a dime? Sounds like the team knows what this guy is all about.
When Foley sues the city....and he will....especially since the Chargers aren't forking over any coin......I hope the cops he assaulted earlier in the year sue him. And make the dollar amount one dollar more than Foleys suit.
I tend to err on the side of the non drunk guy in stories such as these. My guess is that Foley was pretty fukd up and is regretting some of his actions from the night before. Thats not to say that he isn't going to sue SanDiego or this cop and vice versa.
What was that cop on payed leave for? And when you are on paid administrative leave, are you still allowed to tote your biscuit and badge with you? Taco whats the deal?
From my limited experience with this sort of thing......the cops duty gun...or the gun used in the shooting... would be taken as evidence......if he owns a personal gun he can keep it.....
Being placed on leave.....is usually paid leave...unless the employer believes he is going to shiit can the employee.....then no sense in paying the fukn guy.
Mansker was not in uniform and was driving his own car, a black Mazda, home from work at 3 a.m. when he spotted the Oldsmobile weaving on state Route 163, Brugos said.
F*ck the f*ckin cops. This is exactly the type of bulls*it that makes people hate cops. In a f*ckin mazda. Call backup and then go home. He had no business pulling that sh*t.
There have been a lot of people in my area lately who have been pulled over by some clowns with a fake police light on their car(s). You know what the fu*kin cops said in the paper??
"If you have reason to beleive that it may not be a police officer, don't pull over until you are in a secure, lighted area where there may be potential witnesses."
What the f*ck is that? Am I supposed to laminate that article and keep it in my car?? I try that sh*t the mother fu*kers will ram my car off the road and throw my a$$ in jail before I know what happened.
I recently got a DUI at 2:30 AM. I was going 75 in a 65 coming down the steepest hill on the entire highway. I had 6 beers about 4 hours before I got pulled over. I passed all their bullsh*t tests. But I still went to jail and now I'm facing a whole truckload of sh*t.
I guess I'm a criminal.
How do you know Foley was going 90, weaving in and out of traffic? Because he was out at 3:00 AM? Where is the police video to prove anything? Oh wait there is none because the fu*kin pig was in a mazda.
Fu*k him. And trust me I have no special feelings for Foley. Or the Chargers.
And yeah that is a bit odd that he didn't call that in....But, what if he didnt have a cell phone, or what if it had a dead battery? I'm sure normal police officers dont have a cb installed in their home vehicles. What if he had no way of calling it in?
