football language

i know i haven't played pro footbal, but as I understand it they use colors and numbers and other things to make plays work.

Why have they not gone to a language that is not english, so that the competition desn't have a clue as to what they are saying. I would think that it wouldn't be to difficult to teach the different language, as the players don't need to know the whole language, just a few parts.

help me out here.

so all a team would need to steal signals is a rudimentary use of a few words of the same language....you learn 50 words of Russian, what is to stop them of doing the same?

Alpha Code (what they use now) is still the best solution for the situation.

What I can't figure out is why some team does not sign 5 sumo wrestlers to the practice squad and turn them into a mean O-Line over the course of a season or so? They would be cheap and when your talking strength and balance there is none better.

NOW THAT IS A GOOD QUESTION!

Like in The Replacements.

"Former sumo wrestler, good at pushing people around, that's what pass blocking is remember?"

It's a fair question. The problem is though is that those guys aren't that quick. DEs are only getting faster. Sure they would boss around DTs, but if they had to move to hit a speed rusher or get out in front of a RB on a pull, they would be useless.

Have you ever wtched actual Sumo Wrestling? They are extremely athletic, quick men. They are not just "fat guys pushing". Seriously, they have it on the off channel ESPN's sometimes... watch it.

I am really quite serious.

Many teams have a difficult enough time teaching english plays to players. These are football players, which from my own experience by and large are big giant fukn dumb dumbs. Some of these guys can't grasp pictures, let alone another language or code system.

Athletic is one thing, strong is another, but by having that much mass, It would be very difficult for them to stay in lung shape.

Plus, they are unnaturally large due to their diets, and not just naturally large... which means their bodies would not be able to handle the prolonged stresses and strains of a 4 quarter game. they are built for the brief stresses of a Sumo Match.

I'd be willing to bet some good money that very few if any of  those guys could ever run a mile straight, whereas most lineman in the NFL probably could.
