BTW, I see nobody argued the fact that troy brown got raped like he was somebodys prison b***h. So why would any pats player allow that to happen to them?
BTW, Troy Brown was offered 3 times more money by the Saints. The Pats front office worked the phones and managed to line up millions in local endorsement interest in him. He stayed in NE not because the Patriots paid him, but because Dunkin Donuts did. The is the upside of the "iron grip" the organization keeps on everything. They can steer local endorsments towards the guys of their choosing.
I am not going to get into the semantics of how something like this works because I love the Patriots and I am not going to say anything that might get them in deep doo, but.....
Troy Brown counts for less then a mil on the Pats cap, and a little over 3 mil on Dunks cap. Some of the commercials they did with Brown illustrate how invlolved the team was (one invloved the actual "3rd ring" and a joke about Kraft giving it to Putin).
I remember the article in the Globe that aluded to how it all went down, but unsurprisingly the link is broken.
Look when Rodney goes, that is gone. Forget replacing him. He is the greatest "big-play" safety in NFL history (the numbers back me up, so don't go getting yourself beat-down debating the point).
When he is gone, we will put someone there, but they won't be anywhere near Rodney's league.
Well excuse me for having the unmitigated gall to be a Rodney Harrison fan without checking with you first. I didn't know that you had the market cornered and nobody else is allowed to appreciate him as well!!!
JetBlackNinja, It should have never come to that in the first place! Given what Troy Brown did was the modern-day ultimate in "team-first" and selflessness in an era of "Me first" and "f**k the team", Troy should have been paid first and fast. That they RELEASED him initially made them appear, at least to me to be the cheapest, slimiest, most two faced team in the nfl. To not immediately reward troy for putting the TEAM first is WRONG!!!! that's it and that's all.
That he stayed with the pats is just more evidence of his team first attitude and desire to win above money!

Troy was old, and nobody was offering that much because nobody thought he was going to last. He wants to retire a Patriot because he is a local ****in hero. He can live of this community for the rest of his life.
Lemme ask you something? Dou you think Branch would have gotten $40 mil while racking up 5 TD 800 yard seasons for the Raiders or Cards?
There IS an upside to playing here.
Ask Milloy, Seymour, Brady, Woody, Law, Givens, Branch, and a ton of other guys who cashed in here or elsewhere because of the limelight.

super bowl rings are a nice upside to playing in NE, that's a given. however, troy deserved better than what he got from the pats for what he did. also, I don't mind players trying to get PAID! with non-guaranteed contracts and short career spans, one can't blame a guy for trying to get it while he can. but when a player sacrifices money, his own stats and his body for the TEAM, he deserves finiancial appreciation.

In other words... "Thank You Money" which as i have previously stated is "The Stupidest Thing I have Ever Heard".

Yes.
Doug Gabriel had his biggest year to date in 05' catching 3 TDs for 554yds. Had for a 5th.
Branch also had his banner year in 05' cathing 5 TDs for 998yds. Sold for a 1st.
I like it.
ehhh, the logic doesn't take into account the big game punch branch bought. also being the fav target of your QB is worth something as well. Not sure if Gabriel will have either of those things :( i'm just glad the divorce happened before the kids got effected
you know what gets me the most, Branch is now the 7th most highly paid wide reciever in the league...
just thinking off the top of my head, harrison, holt, smith, moss, TO, the top class of WR. now, to say Branch is within striking distance of any of those guys......no way. just no way in hell.
seattle is nuts. (numbers from sports guy on espn2 i think)
Seatle went after Branch because they are disappointed in the way Burleson is performing as well as his ability to pick up the offense. Branch will not reach super status with the Seahawks but he will be an upgrade over the ill-performing Burleson.
wow. penetrating analysis, beef. did your degree come from harvard or yale?
the point isn't whether or not branch will be an upgrade. it's that seattle reached...overextended themselves (a number one? puh leeze), because they think they made a mistake w/ burleson.

Not ONLY the 1st, but also the $39 mil with the $13 up front. That contract is a cap-buster.
Branch is a "catch-on-the-run" receiver. He turns his head back for the ball for a split second and full speed. If the ball isn't six inches from him when he turns he is basically "out of the play".
In this way Branch can only excel under an EXCELLENT Quarterback. Hasselbeck is a good QB, but I don't think he is as good as Brady, and Brady could never got 1,000 out of him.
Branch is "out of the play" way too often, that is some of the reason NE got a rep for "spreading the ball around".
When your #1 receiver takes himself out of a play, or can't beat a double-team, then you have to throw the ball elsewhere.
Plus the injuries. Seattle will live to regret the contract that the Pats were lucky enough to avoid.
I think.. either that or he goes to Seattle and turns into a mini-TO. This is the NFL so you never can guess.
