I'd actually never seen that before, smart-a**. Anyway, I was just making the point that he's been able to get away with doing everything wrong for most of his career because of arm strength. but not anymore. the cannon still works, he does'nt have the talent around him anymore. Brett should have either retired or allowed himself to be traded to a contender.
ha.
i was in a hurry when i posted that, and gave no explanation. REALLY, i wasn't suggesting that you stole the idea! hey, if anything, the fact that it was already out there in cyberspace validates your comparison: someone else saw the same thing.
and i really WAS curious to know how you thought the comparison was instructive. thanks for answering.
as you can see from the posts above, i TOTALLY agree that favre should've retired (and of course, an unlikely, magical return form would make idiots of us, and vindicate GraveDigger).
i guess the best examples we have of a QB hanging it up at the right time are Montana (he WAS effective as a Chief), and Elway (what better way to go out?).
the worst...hmmmm...remember Ken Stabler as a Houston Oiler, a New Orleans Saint, and ... gaak...a Memphis Showboat?
Sad. He was my favorite QB of all, too.

honestly, i thought "my" (apparently not) view of the guy would explain to some degree why he gets a free pass from the media and fans no matter what he does. BUT, I can see now that he AIN'T getting a pass on the whole strahan/sack issue at least. and his chase of the record book apparently isn't sitting well with some either. As to those points of contention, IT'S NOT THAT MAJOR! one sack does not make him pete rose or barry bonds, it makes him a friend, and a pretty good one at that. As to the record book, let the last true gunslinger have his place in history. However, being that his gun still works, i'd like him to go out with his boots on, but playing for a contender.

......and Emmitt? hung around for years with a basement team in an effort to beat the record....
Yes, and Emmitt is an a$$hole, just like Favre...
Emmitt, getting that record pissed me off to no end until i saw him admit on TV that he would not even be near the record if Barry hadn't retired. HE knows he ain't the best and that was good enough for me. Hell, Marino has all the passing records but I know that Montana was better. So, if Fav-ruh gets the records, it does not mean that much. Take the NBA for example,
scoring (all time) 1. Kareem 2. Malone 3. Wilt.
rebounding. 1.Wilt. 2. Russell. 3. Pettit.
assists. 1. Stockton. 2. Magic. 3. Mark Jackson
titles. russell.
best player. Jordan
The records don't always tell the whole story, WE (the fans) do.

Emmit didn't hang around solely to break records. Try money. Someone was willing to pay him a lot of money to do very little for a few years of his waning career.
Fuk you and your legacy. Cash was king in his case. And don't gimme that "he had all the cash he could need at that point in his career".....That is bullsh1t. Only poor people say that.

So do you blame him for getting the cash? If you could get paid boatloads of money to do nothing for a couple of years right before you retired, you'd take the money too! and if ya say anything to the contrary, you're lying through your fukin gums! But that AIN'T the point! The POINT is that the record book rarely tells us who's the best. I can only think of 2 instances where the record book is correct in saying who's the best, Gretzky and Rice. SO if Favre gets his name atop the list on the passing records page, SO FUKIN WHAT!!!
Besides, he has earned the right on the field to be included in the all time best discussion.

I never said, or even eluded to the fact that I wouldn't do exactly what he did. I was just rebutting the "he just came back to break a record statement"
My a$$ would be on the first plane out for more money.
fact is, he had the record before he left dallas. he went to arizona totally for the money. so if brett wants to stick around to get the records, so be it, it doesn't make him the best.

I am THRILLED he came back again! I WANT him to keep playing IN Greenbay!! I want him to go on to be the oldest ever QB tthrow a pick! "Old number 4 is helped on to the field by his grandson Butt the III..."
Hell yes, let him play. Paul Krauses int. record may be in danger. Wonder what he'll cry about next? Maybe it will be his azz is getting sore from being knocked on it so much.
