I thought that BS wsa going to hang over our heads for the whole season. We wanted a 1st rounder and got one (although it could be between 25-32).
I'm happy.
I agree.
A #1 pick is a good deal and the BS is no longer hanging over the team. Now they need to get Grabriel and Jackson up to speed. That will take a bit....but it WILL happen. Two #1s next year.
are you ready to go to war with troy brown, ben watson, doug gabriel, and the rook? wouldn't you rather have branch in the mix, too? or are you operating on the assumption that branch would never play for the pats again?
now that this is your team, how deep do you think they'll go?
as we all watched the birds game yesterday, none of us were surprised to see that the pats had pulled ahead of the bills, figured out a way to win a game that most teams would've lost.

also, how did maroney look?
I would have preferred he took the 3/$20 with the $20 almost fully guarenteed. It was a good deal, and amounts to the same amount he will actually get from this Seattle deal. I think a higher offer would have been a mistake. In light of what I am about to say ANY offer was too much. The Patriots have to resign:
Wilfork (1st rounder) Warren (1st rounder) Wilson (This is going to be SOON and $$)
and you have guys like Ellis Hobbs to keep an eye on. Look you love them all, but you can't resign them all.
The basic fact is Branch only lasted a full season 1 time. He never had more than 5tds in a season, never saw 1,000 yards. He was small, injury prone, and not worth THAT much money.
I agree with Ninja to a point...That system has made some pedestrian players look very good, and to get a first rd pick for Deion Branch....well that's just plain robbery. My guess is that they will parlay those two likely low picks to a team with a lot of cap money for a higher rnd 1st rd pick (or perhaps another player this year should the need arise before week 5)

So hell yes, I am thrilled.
makes sense.
ahhh...vince wilfork. i wanted the birds to draft him SO BADLY...but we got Shawn Andrews instead (who has worked out quite well)...and now that we've finally beefed up the interior of our d-line, it doesn't hurt as much to read that name: Wilfork.
this trade to seattle will tell us alot more about branch: he may be a nice fit. with d-jax's gimped up knee and nate burleson's slow learning curve, branch may be "the man" there in a couple of weeks. then again, he might take awhile to learn the offense too.
Or the third option... he could be on the bench wearing a cast by the end of week 4.
See Branch isn't very durable and he will be running around in a West Coast offense he does not know a damn thing about, this after no camp, no pre-season, no hits since January of last year.
I wish him the best, but I think we made out like bandits in this trade, especially when you consider what a gigantic F.UCK UP letting him seek a trade was. If we don't have to "take our medicine" for that error all the better.

yeah it was a giant screw up with the trade thing, but i'm much happier with a 1st rounder than having a malcontent pretend to play for 6 games at the end of the season
