special teams was sick... defense owned vick minus a few good runs late in the game... coverage was tight and offense was effective... this team finally has a solid QB in brees... i think that more than anything is the key to their success this year...
I always latch onto a sucky team as my "other favorite" (Pats are first). It is fun to route for the little guy.
Problem is my "little guy" won't stay little. Last year it was the Saints, year before it was the Bears. Everytime I pick a sucky team to love, they stop sucking and I have to pick again.
Well, I don't know if I'd go that far yet with this team. Last night was a very impressive performance (especially considering it was a very emotional night for them in front of their home crowd), but I don't know if their D is gonna be able to play like that week after week. This team is for sure, significantly better than last year's team, but I think eventually they're gonna get exposed and fall back to earth.
Welcome back UserName (no sarcasm, there...seriously).
Are the Saints for real? It's a fair question. In years past when they've looked for real, they HAVE come back to earth in the crucial phases (ya know, November, December).
Maybe this year will be different: Tampa has obvious problems; Carolina seems to have some kind of identity crisis; and Jim Mora Jr's incompetence becomes more and more apparent with each passing Sunday: the NFC south IS there for the taking.
Their O looks good. User, I can see why Donté was expendable: Colston! He could be a horse for a long time in the NFL!
I suppose the Saints' D is the most suspect area. I've heard their linebacking corps described in nothing but the most derisive terms, but I haven't seen 'em except for Monday night, when they looked disciplined enough. That Mark Simoneau is an upgrade for them isn't saying much.
So.....what's the over / under on wins for the Saints this year? 8 and rising? 9? 10? Someone in this thread said "NFC championship contenders". was that you, Timmy? Can you back that up with some reasoning? I think it's too early to tell...

It wasnt Timmy... it was me who brought up that sequence of words... but I didnt say they were definite contenders yet... i simply said that monday night, as a team, they certainly looked as though they were a team near the top of the conference... now there was a lot of emotion involved in that game, take it for what you will, but if they play like that consistently, and dont, as some of you predict, "fall back to earth".... then they can certainly be competitive in this conference...
The Saints are just good enough this year to play spoiler. Playoffs and all that will come in the next 2 years as the gel under their new coach and system.

hark! how goes it? thanks for the response, and GO BIRDS!
fair enough. and just to be clear, i didn't "predict" that they will fall back to earth. I noted that they've done it in the past. i really do think it's too early to tell with this group.
but man, what a tragedy it would be if they moved to L.A., after all this work to prop them back up.
it seems like that won't happen now, with Bush in town, the fixed up Superdome, a solid coach, and the overall feelgood vibe.
definitely a tragedy when a team moves and thousands of hometown fans are left existentially homeless... really hope it doesn't happen... LA can support a football team but I dont know if they deserve one... it seems more like the country thinks LA should have a team than LA really wants one... after all, they had the opportunity wide open to them before the would be texans landed in houston and nobody was jumping at the opportunity... maybe its a culture thing... the rams have forgotten LA and LA has forgotten football...
just got done reading Bill Simmons' chat and according to him, L.A. people are starving for a team but where to put a stadium is the main stumbling block. actually he says that the rose bowl is c**kblocking a team playing there.
