To be honest, I'm a ravens fan. By that I mean that I started watching the ravens during their superbowl season at about the week where trent dilfer took over for tony banks. They were really bad, but it worked out. These days, they seem to be pretty decent, but for every season since then I have been crying into my beer over their mediocre offensive line. Be it injuries or age or general lack of skill, there's something truly bad to the way the ravens ran the ball and pass blocked for the last few years. Even in that 2066 yard season it always seemed as though jamal got stuffed at the line or ran for 20 yards.
So I ask the question, what do you guys think is the correct way to go about correcting offensive line problems, and what do you think will become of my poor ravens line? Edwin mulitalo is done for the year, and mike flynn doesn't seem likely to be the starter much longer, so they seem to be in a bit of a transition. What offensive lines in the nfl do you guys think are truly bad, and why?
I think offensive line is the only area in football in which a coach can take the same group of scrubs from one year and make them pretty good the next. Coaching technique, schemes, and continuity are the best ways to improve an O Line, imo.
That sucks about Mulitalo's torn tricep because the left side of that unit was pretty solid with Edwin and Ogden. The Ravens made a mistake when they gave Flynn the money and Rabach walked. Flynn is a huge liability at center and the pressure always seems to come right up the middle. I hate the right side of the Raven O-line with Vincent and Pashos. Pashos is an improvement for sure over Orlando Brown but Zeus had that nasty attitude that seems to be missing on that right side. The loss of Mulitalo is not catastophic. Jason Brown is just going to have to step it up. He is more athletic than Edwin but he is only a second year player who played sparingly last season. Having him lined up next to Ogden provides some comfort though. The Ravens made it a quarter of the season without losing any starters so we've been lucky so far. Good teams have depth so we'll just have to wait and see what happens. The Raven line isn't very good but it isn't awful either.
Arizona's has been pretty bad this year too, I must admit. It may be contributing to the fact that Edgerrin James has been virtually a non-factor thus far this season for them.

Non factor is putting it nicely. 3.1 ypc for that guy is ridiculous and its quite obvious who's fault it is. Edge on the Cards is like trying to drive a Ferrari without any tires. The guy is a proven player who has to be having some regrets about his decision. On top of that the Colts are adjusting to life without him. Edge took the payday but I doubt he'll be hoisting Lombardi in the air anytime soon.
You cannot run the ball when you play from behind every game. Edge's lack of production has nothing whatsoever to do with his ability. That teams o-line fukn blows. Many teams have sh1t o-lines at this point....in fact, there are so few good linemen available that teams are going to have to mortgage their stadiums to get these guys in the offseason...because they sure aren't going to get them via trade.
You cannot have this discussion without at least mentioning the Vikes 100 million dollar line and 14 million dollar new RB and how badly they have UNDERACHIEVED so far.

Painful, just painful.
hutch and mckinnie while not dominating are not the issue. matt birk ****ing blows now and artis hicks and marcus johnson are getting pushed around.
I don't know if I'd say that the Vikes are underacheving. I mean, who expected them to be 2-2 at this point? (I never anticipated them beating Washington and Carolina either!) Plus they have Detroit coming in this week, who they've owned over the past several years so, go figure!
