K-Rob suspended - 20 minutes after trade deadline?

What in the hell? You'd think the NFL already knew he would be suspended in the very near future a couple of days ago, why not give Ted Thompson a chance to trade for someone? Why not give him a chance to make a move on Jerry Porter? I think the NFLPA should have something to say about this move, the packers are now stuck with Greg Jennings Donald Driver, and uhm.... Ruvel Martin? They have two recievers on the practice squad, but personaly, i dont know how Brett Favre would feel about throwing passes to Chris Francies and Cliff Russel.. Also Robert Ferguson has a season ending injury, as always.

Does anyone know of any available FA recievers who might be an option for the packers to pick up?

grrrrrk....koff koff........gack....eh.

I just dont' know what to say. Can anyone possibly be SURPISED by the outcome????!! Or is it just the time that has your undies in a bunch?

Even without my purple glasses on, i cannot for the life of me see what POSSIBLE difference 20 freakin minutes makes?  The man was doing in EXCESS of 100 MPH DRUNK off his ass!! This is AFTER losing his job becasue of MULTIPLE previous infractions with the team that drafted him in the 1st round. He went through suspensions and all the happy that goes with being in the NFL substance abuse program. Was given a second chance by a club that signed him to a 3 yr contract with SPECIFIC LANGUAGE about not FN up again... AND HE PULLS THIS OUT OF HIS BUTT!!!!!!

The pack rolled the dice and lost but aren't out much money. IF he can clean up and IF the NFL lets him back in and IF the pack even want him, he owes them.  but MY GOD get some perspectrive??? what if your brother father mother child friend had been on that road???

20 Minutes? puuuulease!

Also he had his hearing today, they couldnt do anything until the legal portion was over.

I don't think the Packers really care. Obviously the guy was brought in so the coaches could get info on the "new" Vikes. And ya know, we got 3 or 4 decent games out of him. It was a low risk-high reward situation. Packers get him for a couple weeks...they get a decent WR and a good KR....he gets suspended, we're back where we were. I thought he would last a little longer, but oh well.

The part I think is wrong is that the NFL suspended him before him being found guilty. He pleaded not guilty at his hearing...he wasn't convicted. Now obviously, the guy did it, but he hasn't been found guilty. In a strange turn of events, what if he is found not guilty? The NFL suspended an innocent man for doing nothing. They denied him the right to make an income...sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen. It would have been easier for the NFL to let him play until his hearing and decide afterwards. Sounds kind of shady to me.

I'm not defending the guy, but we do still have to follow our legal system, regardless of what team he plays on.

Yea, he had his hearing, but he didnt get convicted of anything, it was merely a pre-trial. The legal portion is long from over

Random snippets from various newspapers around the country - I did a goggle search.  I DO hear what your saying about the legality of the suspension without a conviction on the Minny charges, but as you can see. There is LOT more to his sorry past than even I thought.

In an October 2004 article in the Tacoma News Tribune, Mike Sando reported on Robinson’s past troubles:

A search of public records revealed 21 cases implicating Robinson for various misdeeds, including four allegations of negligent driving since 2003. The records show repeated failures to appear in court, cases going to collection and lawyers taking care of matters at the last minute.

A negligent-driving conviction from April 2003 stemmed from a more serious charge of reckless driving, records show. There were 13 other traffic-related cases, including one from April of this year in which an officer cited Robinson for traveling 105 mph in a 60 zone. The most recent case was dated Aug. 12 (2004), four days before Seattle played an exhibition game at Green Bay. That case involved allegations of reckless and negligent driving. Six other incidents originated from Robinson's home state of North Carolina, including four in 1998

After pleading guilty to driving under the influence in 2005, Robinson was released by Seattle. He later spent 28 days in a treatment facility for alcohol abuse.

In July 2005, Robinson arrived at Kirkland (Wash.) Municipal Court to serve a one-day sentence for a May 2005 DUI stop that he pled guilty to. In exchange for that plea, Robinson’s blood-alcohol levels (two .191 tests, over three times the legal limit in Washington) were stricken from the record, and a reckless driving charge was dropped.

This is from the most recent infraction

The blue BMW raced into town so fast that police officer Travis Sandland's radar couldn't get its speed. A moment later he clocked it at 104 mph.

It was about 10:45 p.m., minutes before the 11 p.m. curfew for Vikings to report back to training camp a few miles south in Mankato, and receiver Koren Robinson's career was about to be in serious jeopardy.

Robinson was driving with a suspended license from North Carolina.

Robinson was silent throughout the 10-minute hearing Wednesday. His attorney, John Fox, acknowledged only that Robinson failed to report his change of address, his change of employment status and other requirements to the probation office.

I had a chance to review Mr. Robinson's file. There are certainly numerous violations," McSeveney said. "Given Mr. Robinson's record ... 90 days in jail would be appropriate."

Robinson must begin serving his sentence by next March 1, when another court hearing is scheduled in Kirkland.

My point(s) being:

1)      I do not have the legal background to really answer your questions but with the litigious nature of the NFL I am gonna go waaay out on a limb and say they have covered their butts on this one. It is much too public for them to have missed something that obvious.

2)      With a history like this – I’m sorry I find it hard to shed any tears. No matter what you call alcoholism he HAS the resources to get help. The money the contacts..There are a lot of people out there who can’t afford rehab at Hazleton or Betty Ford or whatever is “hot” right now for the rich and addicted.

Just MHO…

Sure the guy is a boozer and a loser, but he's still entitled to fair treatment like everyone else. It's obvious he did it, but I still think the NFL should have waited until his trial. If he gets let off, how's the NFL going to look.....they denied an innocent man his paycheck for an entire year. Makes the NFL seem REAL classy. If he is convicted, then as you said, the NFL has already covered their a$$. It's not about KRob or Chris Henry, it's about helping the NFL maintain it's image. Regardless of how they treat the players, they want to save face.

Wait Digger...they did convict him. They sentenced him to 90 days in jail. With which he was given the option to serve after the season ended. Once the verdict was in...he was suspended for the year shortly thereafter.

Am I wrong?

no...GoBears you're right....he was sentenced that means guilty...period.

Grave Digger your concern for his ability to make a living is valid but you waste it on the wrong guys....K-Rob IS guilty of doing what they said.....but what about the Wizzinator huh?....guy was suspended a year for having an object that he "might" have used to beat a piss test. Not a failed test mind you but that he might try to beat one.  I mean if big fake rubber dongs were illegal timmy would have been in jail for years now...LOL.

Or the guys who have gotten suspensions for use of masking agents.....Golden Seal isn't illegal but they find it in your piss test it is an immediate suspension. Now these are guys who weren't busted...no arrests...just the presence of a substance that might be used to mask and they are suspended.

KRob was sentenced to 90 days in jail for violating his parole when he moved to Green Bay and failed to report his change of address and place of employment. That 90 days has to be served before March 1st. He could have played through November. He received the parole violation sentence at the end of Sept. or beginning of Oct. I think....it's been a while. He was suspended right after that came out.

He hasn't even had his trial yet for the DUI he received in Mankato, Minn. I think it was DUI and high speed chase. He hasn't even had his trial for that yet, and I don't think that trial is set to take place until after the season.

I realize the guy is a bum and a loser, but he deserves the same rights as everyone else. You all may not like him because he is a Packer, but he is entitled to the same legal system as you all.

Digger

Whoaaaa sunshine. I have no beef with K rob becasue of the team he plays with. He was here in MInny first remember? Welcomed with open arms.

Its the drunken high speed chase and long history of problems that cause my disdain. It is very clear that he cannot control himself at this point in his life and has not been able to for several years. Beyond all of that, all of his ex- team mates (vikes & hawks) and coaches speak highly of him a s person.  But I will bet you the VAST majority dont want him driving around their neighborhoods where their children play.

If the the NFL in some way violated his rights to due process under the law, and I do mean if.   Don't bother sending the man any qaurters to help pay his legal expenses. He will have whole slimy hoards of lawyers trying to get there hands on the big fat NFL purse.

I also could care less which team he plays for......what WAS K-Rob suspended for?...was it for the newest DWI or was he suspended for violating his parole? when in the abuse program isn't violating your parole a punishable offense? Are you positive the NFL isn't covering thier azz by suspending him for that and not the DWI?...they have whole platoons of very smart lawyers.

Digger you have yet to explain why this would offend you and the guys busted for masking thier urine doesn't...instead of this being a case of us being prejudice because he wears the gold and green, I think it is a case of YOU being prejudice because he does! Either stick up for everyone suspended on assumed guilt or none of them

I wouldn't pay the guys legal bills or defend him. He has enough money and is a grown a$$ man. If it turns out the league suspended him for violating his parole, I'm fine with that. It's not a strike against the substance abuse policy, but he did break the law. If they suspended him for the DUI, then I have a problem because he has not been convicted. You can't punish a guy for a crime he wasn't found guilty of committing. I'm sure he will financially be stable after not being paid for a year, it's the principle of the matter. Again, you shouldn't suspend a guy and deny him the right to make money unless he's actually been convicted of a crime and it violates the league rules. Does what he was arrested for violate NFL rules? HECK YES. Has he actually been convicted? NO. He shouldn't have been suspended, yet. If (when) he is actually convicted, then I think they should suspend him for the 2007 offseason and season.

Now I think the guy is a turd and I wouldn't care what team he played for either. Don't get me wrong, I don't want him to get off....he was an idiot and deserves exactly what he will get. But he hasn't gotten anything yet, except 90 days in jail for violating his parole.

As for the guys like Ontario Smith, I'm not 100% up on the facts of the case. I didn't follow that saga very closely. All I know is that he was caught with a Whizzinator when he had to take a drug test which he probably would have failed. Did they see him use it? If they didn't, then why didn't they give him another drug test on the spot and watch him take it? If they did, then thats it. If they DIDN't actually see him use it and didn't watch him take another test and he turned up clean, then I don't think he should have been suspended.

K-Rob did plead guilty and got 90 days....The fact that you need to question which arrest he got the 90...makes this an even bigger joke. Take a step back and think about this....When you need to reasearch "which" violation  and\or arrest he the boot from the NFL....I really dont think their needs to be a debate.

Just like a drivers license...playing in the NFL is a privledge and not a right.....Just ask Mo Clo....and this dumb ass (K-Rob) lost them both.

As for the Whizzinator......this guy had enough coin to fight the suspension if there was "any" wiggle room.

The above post is a fine example of a definitive statement

I know for a fact that there was no wiggle room in the O.Smith case....it is very clear in the substance abuse program, any masking agents or attempts to bypass the test will read as a failed drug test.......period, no wiggle at all. But none the less the man WAS suspended without being charged with a crime or found guilty of anything, other than violating the rule. Which is what had Digger up in arms.

Playing in the NFL is a right, and while I am personally for legalization of pot, i don't see why a man getting paid that much to play, and can only play for a short time at best, should take the chance of losing that paycheck. If they want to puff herb, wait until they retire and move to Canada, lord knows they have the dough.

No, playing in the NFL is a job and being able to earn a living IS a right. I'm not FOR the guy getting off. I think he SHOULD go to jail for a while. He put himself and many other people at risk with his crime. What I DON'T agree with, is him getting suspended for something he hasn't actually been convicted of. Now, if they supended him for his parole violation, I'm 100% behind the NFL. He committed that crime and was found guilty. I'm sheding any tears that the guy is basically off the streets, but the way the whole thing went down just makes me think a little less of our new commissioner. My opinion is that Goodell was just looking for an excuse to flex his muscle and show what he is about.

My question about Ontarrio Smith, they found  a masking agent in his urine, right? Did that violate the law, or did it break just an NFL rule? Was he piss tested for the NFL or for the law? If it was just for the NFL, then he violated an NFL rule and should have been suspended for that. THEY caught him violating a league rule. If its the opposite, and he violated his parole (or something?) then I think it's the same as KRob. Again, I don't know much about that case.

O. Smith didn't fail a drop....he was going through airport customs when they came across a couple of bags of an unknown powder. Upon searching the rest of his stuff they found the Whizzinator, the powder was dehydrated clean piss. Being caught with the masking agent was enough to suspend him for a year....on intent to bypass a piss test.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not illegal to have dried piss or a fake cok is it? However it DOES violate NFL rules. He got suspended for violatig NFL rules and not laws.

All the legalities aside, Favre recently made a very relevant point about how the NFL executes this type of suspension. K-Rob has to clean out his locker and is not allowed to be involved with the team in any official capacity. That amounts to basically stripping him of what could be a large part of his support system! doesn't matter whether you think alcoholism is a disease or not (I don't) but guys like him and Odell Thurman Need all the help they can get in trying to get their sh*t together and removing them from all contact with people who have a vested interest in their recovery can't be good! Brett didn't argue the need for the suspension, just how it is applied. And he would know a thing or two about overcoming addiction.

Twanne,

On the same note, the guy has been enrolled in the support program....this was his third violation. At what point can you effectively wipe your hands clean of this repeat offender. At what point do you turn your back on someone who has chosen on three seperate occasions to say fuk you? This is the NFL not alcoholics anonymous. Koren obviously didn't want to quit. Is that the NFLs fault? Suspensions are the NFL's way of saying hey, if you fuk up we aren't going to pay you. If that isn't incentive enough then you should either surround yourself with folks that can help you, (with all that money that you are getting) or find another line of work in which persistent drunken rampages are tolerated.

The NFL has done all that it needs to for this individual, and now it is up to him to determine what is most important in his life...sickness or not. I mean there is only so much that the NFL can do. It's really up to him.

After all...he doesn't appear to be so much of an alcoholic that he cannot show up on game day right? How truly bad can Koren's "sickness" be?

He's a selfish prick in my book and can kiss my ass....and while hes at it...kiss his NFL meal ticket goodbye.

Can't argue with the "f**k him" contingent, both him and Odell have EARNED that many times over. However, from what I have seen of people with substance problems, he hasn't even scratched the surface of how bad it can get. Also, if it were as simple as saying "I have incentive to quit, so I will", people would successfully quit every day. The actual success rate of people overcoming addiction even with help is about 5%.

That being said, I generally fall into the "f**k him" category, but hearing the differing point of view from someone who has to some degree walked a mile in those shoes, that has to carry some weight.
