A tough break for the Bears- he' a heck of hitter. Surgery on his foot for a ligament damaged on Monday...
Heal quickly Mike!
Yeah...something bad seems to happen to him every year. He's kind of cursed that way unfortunately. I think that's why the Bears drafted Hester and Manning this year instead of a TE.
that is exactly what they did in Mannings case, he is basically the same guy that Brown is....a safety with CB speed, but a little bigger. He will fill in for Brown, but while the kid shows talent he is but a rookie and Brown was the QB of the defensive backfield....he should handle the play but making the calls will take some time. Mike Brown WILL be missed....he always is, thats the problem.
Hester was signed for one thing and one thing only, return man. The Bears tried to sign Randle El, they tried trading for a return man. So when that failed they went out and drafted one, and I think they got a better one there than they could have had anywhere else. Eventually Hester will develop into a CB, I don't know if he will ever be a starter, but he has the skills to do the job.
I don't think Manning was drafted to replace Brown at SS but to play next to him at FS like he's been doing. Reports so far say Todd Johnson will be taking over Brown's spot. That troubles me since although he can lay the wood, Todd just can't cover anyone. I don't understand why they don't give Chris Harris the start, I knwo he missed alot of tackles early in the season but so did everybody. His skills are much better suited for SS than FS anyway.
No...he was drafted as his eventual replacement. They will continue to play him where he is for this year because as a rookie you don't want to shift him around in the middle of the season. Brandon McGowen will be coming in to play Browns spot if he's ready, Johnson will do it until he is. The Bears are fairly high on this kid and he is a SS, Harris is always an option also, he has choked some this year but he played well last year.
